Some women taking matters into their own hands Saturday learning how to protect themselves physically, mentally and emotionally.
They started phase one of a self defense class taught by instructors with the Global Tactical Training Group otherwise known as "GTAC".
Saturday the women discovered ways to be more aware of their surroundings and prepare themselves mentally of potentially dangerous situations.
Amy Thurman says,"Women learn differently. We communicate differently and we have different threat levels to deal with then men do. So it stands to reason we should have a class that addresses those specific issues taught by a woman."
The self defense course runs through April.
The women will also have weapons training plus learn some hand to hand combat maneuvers.
