COLUMBIA, SC (WTOC) -
Fifty residents from 16 counties
around South Carolina may be eligible for pre-job training, heavy equipment operator training and commercial drivers' license
training for highway construction work.
The South Carolina Department
of Transportation recently awarded a Transportation Careers Training Program one-year
grant to A2 Consulting.
The grant funds will be used
to train unemployed, underemployed, minorities, women and disadvantaged job
seekers for transportation-related jobs in the field of highway construction.
The grant provides job training,
heavy equipment operator training and commercial drivers' license training for
50 people. Participants must live in Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell,
Calhoun, Clarendon, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Georgetown, Hampton, Horry,
Marion, Marlboro, Orangeburg and Williamsburg counties.
The program will provide the
opportunity to get a commercial drivers' license, certification as a heavy
equipment operator and National Center for Construction Education and Research
certification.
