The city of Savannah is working to build up it's relationship with China. On Monday, Mayor Edna Jackson and members of city council met with Consul General Xu Erwen. They talked about a number of topics including the ports, getting more Chinese students to attend both Savannah State University and Armstrong Atlantic State University, and the economic impact of the relationship.
"The relationship with China is really important economically with this entire country and it is certainly important to the city of Savannah and the state of Georgia. Our city has already made great strides in its relationship with China," said Brynn Grant, Savannah Economic Development vice president.
"It is a pretty important port and with the expansion of the Panama Canal, the trade between Savannah and China will be expanding, I'm sure. We have a lot of opportunity to expand the ties and also the education," said Erwen.
The group also toured Gulfstream and other businesses in the city.
