Uche ChukwukereChatham County's best spellers went word for word Monday night. About 40 contestants, one from each Savannah-Chatham public elementary and middle school, showed off their skills at the annual county-wide spelling bee. Cassidy Messner from Hesse Elementary finished third, Karsten Summerall from Godley Station Elementary placed second, and Uche Chukwukere from Oglethorpe Academy won first by spelling the word chimichanga.
"I've been studying for like four to six hours everyday, so it takes a lot of work. It is not easy," said Chukwukere.
Chukwukere was the third place winner last year. WTOC's Sonny Dixon served as one of the callers.
