A
17 year old has been charged with enticing a child for indecent purposes.
Dennis
Gary Sheppard, 17, was arrested Monday afternoon at the entrance to Point Peter
Landing, according to the Camden County Sheriff's Office.
He
faces more charges including criminal attempt to commit child molestation. The
arrest was the result of an investigation by the sheriff's office into
allegations of a man acting strangely and trying to entice children in the
Point Peter area.
Investigators
said they believe Sheppard was potentially fixated on a particular victim and
arranged his life to have as much time near the victim as possible, according
to CCSO.
"I
believe the quick action by our deputies and the extraordinarily valuable help
from the community saved this young boy from a very traumatic, life altering
and potentially life threatening event. Thankfully the victim is safe with his
family," said Sheriff Jim Proctor in a statement.
The
St. Marys Police Dept. assisted in the arrest.
