CEMA plans for accidents during hurricane evacuation
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
Many Savannah residents are wondering what would happen if a bad accident occurred on I-16 during a hurricane evacuation, when the road is already packed.
Chatham Emergency Management is already planning.
"It would be, I think, somewhat easier since all of the resources would be stood up already in terms of police, fire and ambulance. Also, if you are talking about I-16 and a pile-up, traffic would probably not be going at a high rate of speed, as it typically does during a non-evacuation day," said Kelly Harley, Chatham Emergency Management Agency.
