LAURENS CO., GA (WTOC) - A reconstruction team will be conducting a follow-up investigation into a massive fiery crash Wednesday on Interstate 16 westbound.

Four people were killed and nine people were injured in up to 10 crashes involving 27 vehicles.

Michael Jarome Smith from Covington, Ga,; Joel Moore of Effingham County; and Clayton and Josephine Warnock, of Dublin, Ga., were killed.

A chain-reaction crash occurred at mile marker 37 during foggy conditions and other crashes happened as vehicles slowed for the crashes ahead of them, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

There were 10 separate crashes spread over a quarter-mile area around mile marker 37 in the westbound lanes. The eastbound lanes are open and one westbound lane remains closed.

There's no estimated timeline on the Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team investigation.
