LAURENS CO., GA (WTOC) - A
reconstruction team will be conducting a follow-up investigation into a massive
fiery crash Wednesday on Interstate 16 westbound.
Four
people were killed and nine people were injured in up to 10 crashes involving
27 vehicles.
Michael
Jarome Smith from Covington, Ga,; Joel Moore of Effingham County; and Clayton
and Josephine Warnock, of Dublin, Ga., were killed.
A
chain-reaction crash occurred at mile marker 37 during foggy conditions and other
crashes happened as vehicles slowed for the crashes ahead of them, according to
the Georgia State Patrol.
There
were 10 separate crashes spread over a quarter-mile area around mile marker 37
in the westbound lanes. The eastbound lanes are open and one westbound lane remains
closed.
There's
no estimated timeline on the Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team investigation.
