SMITHS STATION, AL (WTVM) -

A Lee County Grand Jury has upgraded the charges of 27-year-old Tiffany Danielle Andrews of Smiths Station, who is currently behind bars for manslaughter.

These charges stem from her allegedly striking and killing her husband with her vehicle while he was riding a motorcycle on July 1, 2012.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office responded to the intersection of Lee Road 248 and Highway 280 in Smiths Station and found a damaged motorcycle and unresponsive male lying on the ground.

The victim was later identified as Andrews' husband, 33-year-old Fort Benning Specialist, Michael Andrews.

He was transported to the hospital and later pronounced dead.

Tiffany Andrews was arrested in Birmingham for manslaughter on September 4, 2012 and currently remains in the Lee County Detention Center.

However, her charges have been upgraded to murder.

"Evidence indicates that she intentionally struck Mr. Andrews with the vehicle as he was riding his motorcycle on US 280," explains Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones.

Jones was not able to comment on the details of how Andrews struck her husband or if alcohol was involved, but he did say the motive is believed to be linked to domestic issues.

"There was some issues involving the relationship and we feel like that had something to do with what occurred the night of July 1," says Jones.

Andrews will be arraigned on this new charge in the near future. News Leader 9 will keep you updated on the latest.
