Jail officer trainees honored during graduation ceremony
CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -
The Chatham County Sheriff's Office held its largest jail officer graduation on Friday afternoon.
37 graduates from the Basic Jail Officers Training course were honored at 2 p.m. Friday in a ceremony at the Armstrong Center. It was largest class in the department's history, according to the sheriff's office. After more training with a Facility Training Officer in the jail, the graduates will help staff the new inmate housing units in the Detention Center Expansion Project.
"I think the
biggest hurdle is just being new in a new environment. I didn't come from a
physical work type atmosphere. I had to get used to everybody's personality and
get really comfortable really quick and get it done," said Talisa Carter, jail
officers training course graduate.
Sheriff Al St Lawrence and the sheriff's office command staff attended the event.
