BRYAN CO., GA (WTOC) -

A 5-year-old boy who was hit while getting off his school bus on Thursday in Pembroke has died.

The Bryan County Coroner Bill Cox told WTOC that KeShawn Odum died at 5:19 a.m. Friday.

The Georgia State Patrol said KeShawn was getting off the bus when he was struck by a pickup truck on Highway 119 in Pembroke.

KeShawn Odum was on life support and had been in critical condition as of Thursday night at Memorial University Medical Center.

Investigators say the bus had the blinking stop sign deployed, but the truck did not stop.

"I know for sure everyone is saying the boy is really bad off. The bus driver is sitting up there and still scared and shaken up," said neighbor Auneisha Williams.

Williams said her brothers and sisters were on the bus and were shaken up. Other parents and grandparents arrived at the scene were concerned.

"I'm concerned about the high school students when they get out of school and start speeding," Patricia Fleming said. She said her granddaughter is in the same class as the victim.

Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash. Troopers say charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
