13 more indicted in sex trafficking, prostitution ring

Thirteen more people were indicted Thursday in federal court in connection with a sex trafficking and prostitution ring that ran in Mexico, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Now, 25 defendants have been charged as part of Operation Dark Night. Twelve people were also indicted in January in the operation.  The investigation was led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations .

Several arrests and searches were made January, and federal authorities rescued several women who were forced into prostitution, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

HSI is allowing the victims to stay in the U.S. during the criminal proceedings. They may also qualify for a T-visa, which is issued to victims of human trafficking who have complied with reasonable requests for assistance in investigations and prosecutions, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

The investigation into these cases continues.

Anyone who suspects instances of human trafficking is encouraged to call the HSI tip line at 1.866.DHS.2.ICE or the Human Trafficking Hotline at 1.888.373.7888. Anonymous calls are welcome.
