The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department's Traffic Unit will be closing several downtown Savannah roads to vehicle traffic along the Georgia Day Parade route.
Starting at 8 a.m. Feb. 12, Gaston St. between Drayton St. and Whitaker St. will serve as the drop-off area for school buses transporting parade participants to the staging area.
Authorities will set up a moving road block along Bull St. between Charlton St. and Bryan St. Officers positioned at Liberty St., Broughton St. and Oglethorpe Ave. will deter traffic as parade participants pass. Traffic flow will resume after participants clear the specified intersections.
Detours will also be arranged on Bay St. between Drayton St. and Whitaker St. Westbound traffic will be sent southbound on Price St. and eastbound traffic will be send southbound on Whitaker St. Bay St. near Savannah City Hall will be limited to one lane of westbound traffic to accommodate the event stage setup and removal.
Marked no parking zones will be set up until the event ends at Bull St. between Bryan St. and Bay St., the school bus unloading zone at Gaston St. between Drayton St. and Whitaker St., and the school bus parking area on both sides of Bay St. between Bull St. and Habersham St. Officers will mark the no parking zone on Monday afternoon.
