ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A man who police say shot and killed his estranged wife died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in Miami.

Melanie McQueen-Moultrie, 35, of Atlanta, was found shot to death in her car in southwest Atlanta on Feb. 11.

Detectives said they believe Dondrelle Moultrie fired several shots through the driver's side window of McQueen-Moultrie's car on Emerald Court and then drove off.

After McQueen-Moultrie was shot, her car collided with a mailbox before coming to a stop.

A spokesperson with Piedmont Hospital confirmed that McQueen-Moultrie was employed at the hospital, but did not say in what capacity.

"It's crazy," said neighbor Andre Turner. "For him to do something like that, I'm really surprised, I'm really shocked about it. The lady seemed like a quiet lady to me. It seems like something like that would never happen around here."

Detectives said they believe Dondrelle Moultrie fled the scene off in a 2008 teal Chevy Silverado truck.

Both the Atlanta Police Fugitive Squad and U.S. Marshals were searching for Moultrie.
