Man robbed, assaulted in Bluffton

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating a strong arm robbery that occurred overnight in Bluffton.

At about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, deputies met with a 25-year-old man who said he had been robbed and assaulted while riding in a car with two others.

The victim said he had met a man who went by "Red Dog" several weeks earlier at a bar on Hilton Head. The victim said Red Dog called him at about 11 p.m. Monday and invited him to have drinks at a Bluffton bar.

A short while later, Red Dog and another man arrived at the Red Roof Inn to pick up the victim. He got into an older model red or maroon-colored pickup truck. As they got near a McDonald's at 1380 Fording Island Rd., one of the men began to choke the victim and demand money. The victim struggled with the suspect, who took his wallet and cell phone.

The suspect then pushed the victim out of the moving truck. The victim rolled into a ditch where he hid until he was sure the suspects were gone and walked westbound along Hwy 278.

A passerby stopped upon seeing the victim staggering on the roadside in the area of Sheridan Park and helped the victim contact authorities.

He was taken to Hilton Head Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Both suspects are described as white males with brown hair and are between 30-35 years old. They were both about 5' 8" tall and weigh 180 lbs.
