Authorization for overtime and hiring 24 new firefighters for the Bluffton
Township Fire District was approved at Monday night's Beaufort County Council
meeting.
The district says it is a temporary plan.
The
district's budget is being raised by $554, 000 through June 30. The money is being
used to give overtime to current firefighters, hire and train new ones.
The
hope is to have the new "temporary" firefighters trained and ready to
go by July.
The
fire district said the County Council is scheduled to vote on the permanent
plan sometime in April. The district said they want year round funding
for new firefighters so they can fully staff stations in the two gated
communities.
