Council approves hiring new firefighters in Bluffton
BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -
Help is on the way for the Bluffton Township Fire District. Authorization for overtime and hiring 24 new firefighters was approved Monday night at the Beaufort County Council meeting.
To make this possible, the district's budget is being raised by $554,000 through June 30. It is just a temporary plan. They say they hope to have the new temporary firefighters trained and ready to go by July.
The council is scheduled to vote on a permanent plan sometime in April. They want year round funding for new firefighters so they can fully staff stations in two gated communities.
