LONG CO., GA (WTOC) -
Officials in Long County are reporting that Smiley Elementary School was struck by lightning early Wednesday.
The school suffered minimal damage to the roof.
Ludowici Fire Chief Richard Truman said the school will open because the damage was mainly to the roof. Fire crews are in the process of putting a tarp over the damaged area to shield it from the rain.
