Have you been shopping this weekend? You probably weren't the only one. Thousands of people packed into the malls and stores, getting a big break during Georgia's tax free weekend. Residents and retail outlets took full advantage of the shopping spree, putting some money back in their pockets and in the community.

It was standing room only in the Super Wal-Mart aisles, as people searched for the perfect back to school items.

Shoppers combed the bins, filling their carts, knowing their final bill would be less than usual." Wal-Mart has a lot of sales and it’s the tax free weekend. we saved a lot," said shopper, Shanay Frazier. Shopper Taunia Richardson agreed,"When you have three kids to go through school and I've got to work.every penny counts."

Many people felt the shopping weekend will not only help their pocket books, but the state of Georgia's as well.

"I think it stimulates the economy.people have to buy their school clothes anyway, supplies and i think it's a great thing on the part of the state.helps put money back in circulation," explained shopper, Bill Holland.

With the continuous ringing of the cash register, the tax free weekend gives area stores the boost they need too.

"We have exceeded expectations for sales. Traffic's been great,we've sold a lot of merchandise.hopefully we can carry that on through the weekend," said Super Wal-Mart Co-Manager, Juanita Roberts.
