Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. announced Thursday he will endorse Elizabeth Colbert Busch, the sister of comedian Stephen Colbert, for South Carolina's 1st Congressional District seat.
Colbert Busch was in the Lowcountry Thursday to join Mayor Riley for his announcement. She called today an "extraordinary day" for her campaign.
She recently announced her plan to run for the 1st Congressional District seat after the seat was vacated by Sen. Tim Scott. Scott was appointed to Jim DeMint's senate seat after he left to run the Heritage Foundation.
During Thursday's press conference, Riley said the port is key to economic prosperity in the Lowcountry, and no one knows it better than Colbert Busch.
The director of business development at the Wind Turbine Drivetrain Testing Facility at Clemson University has picked up a number of endorsements since announcing she would run for the seat.
Comedy Central political satirist Stephen Colbert said he would help campaign for his sister, as did Martin Skelly, who dropped out of the race earlier this month.
