Crews respond to minor sewage spill on River St.

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at the northwest corner of the intersection of Lincoln St. and River St. on Friday.

The wet-well for Lift Station #21 on River St. was being cleaned early Friday morning when a malfunction occurred on the debris tank door of the Vac Truck. The door opened and discharged sewage from the tank onto the ground surface. Before the sewage could be recovered and cleaned up, a total volume of 40 gallons drained into the City Storm System and the Savannah River.

According to State Environmental Protection Division guidelines, the incident has been classified as a minor spill. Crews were notified at 12:15 a.m. and the spill was corrected by 12:16 a.m.
