Rincon Police accepting applications for Citizens Police Academy

The Rincon Police Department is accepting applications for its first Citizens Police Academy, a 10 week program that begins on April 13.

The academy is designed to create a greater awareness and understanding between the police department and citizens.  The course will help increase the students' understanding of the mission, procedures, techniques, problems, dangers and experiences of the Rincon Police Department.

Applicants must be 18 years of age, complete a Citizens Police Academy application, be willing to submit a background check, and sign a Waiver of Liability to attend the course.

The classes will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday evenings at the Rincon Police Department, 107 W 17th St. in Rincon.

Folks must deliver their applications to the Rincon Police Department by March 29. The applicant must possess a valid picture ID. The application can be notarized at the Rincon Police Department only if the applicant is present.

Class size is limited to the first 20 approved applicants and there is no fee for the course. Rincon residents will have priority.
