CERT volunteers put their skills to the test

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

It may look like a weather disaster, but it's really all for show.

17 volunteers completed a 20-hour course to become part of the Community Emergency Response Team.

On Sunday, residents put what they learned in the classroom to the test.

Volunteers put out fires, administered first aid, and conducted search and rescues.

"We try to show people how to, number one, take care of themselves during a disaster, then their families and then the neighborhood, and when they have that sorted out to their liking, then they can go community wide and help the county CERT team respond to different things." said Dan Mobley, CERT course instructor.

On average the CERT program conducts training courses four times a year. It's put on by the Chatham County Emergency Management Agency.
