Hardeeville man shot at Hilton Head Island apartment

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting of a man injured at a Hilton Head apartment complex on Sunday afternoon.

Deputies responded at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday to Hilton Head Gardens at 11 Southwood Park Dr. on reports of shots fired near a pond in the apartment complex, according to the sheriff's office.

While headed to the apartment complex, deputies were notified that a gunshot victim had arrived at the Hilton Head Hospital emergency room.

Deputies made contact with a 31-year-old Hardeeville man at the hospital, who was being treated for several gunshot wounds. He said he and a friend went to the apartments to visit a woman. As they were walking through the complex, they heard gunshots behind them.

The victim's friend, who was uninjured, took him to the hospital. They were unable to provide any description of the possible shooters, and no motive has been determined, according to the sheriff's office.

Investigators have been unable to locate any cooperating witnesses.

The victim has since been transferred to Savannah for more medical treatment. He remains in stable, but serious condition.

Anyone with any information can contact either Investigator Sgt. L. Albertin at 843.255.3413 or CrimeStoppers.
