Leaders discuss ways to pay for Bluffton Pkwy construction
BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -
Community leaders in the lowcountry are talking about how to pay for two incomplete sections of Bluffton Parkway. The Beaufort County Council believes they have enough money to build the flyover bridges, which will connect the parkway with U.S. 278 near the bridge to Hilton Head Island, but they say it is unclear where money to create a new section between Buck Island Road and Buckwalter Parkway will come from.
"I believe when the county is committed to do it, we have to go do it. We trust that we will hopefully get the money from the state. If we don't, we will look to the tax payers of Beaufort County. I trust the administrator. There is a good reasonable high probability the state would follow through on the money they think they can get us," said Stu Rodman, Beaufort County Council vice president.
The combination of the two projects is expected to cost about $70 million.
