Watermelon Truck Wreck Shuts Down Road

Just after 10:30pm last night, a pickup truck carrying dozens of watermelons, weighing some 4,000 pounds, was crossing 37th Street when police say a black vehicle ran into it. A third vehicle was also clipped.

The impact caused the truck to dump the melon load all over Ogeechee Road and police had to shut it down while they waited for officials from the Department of Agriculture.

They were finally able to open the road about 1am this morning. Fortunately, no one was injured.
