SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Christopher Aaron Walter, 30, a sex offender who has been evading law enforcement officers since November, was arrested in California Tuesday and will be extradited to Chatham County in the coming days or weeks. Walter was arrested by the San Francisco Police Department.

Investigators found Walter riding his bicycle near an elementary school. When an officer approached him, he gave a false name. Investigators say Walter was acting nervous and eventually admitted he was wanted in Georgia.

Walter was convicted in 2002 in Georgia for enticing a child for indecent purposes. He has been labeled a sexual predator by the state. Walter went missing on Nov. 13 after he disabled his electronic ankle monitor. The last time CCSO Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit made contact with Walter, he was living under the Talmadge Bridge in downtown Savannah.

Walter is now facing charges of probation violation and failure to register as a sex offender for leaving town without notifying authorities.
