SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Prosecutors are expected to wrap up their case on Friday.

Suspects Kevin Brooks and Brian Jones are on trial in connection with a hostage and standoff situation that occurred on May 17, 2012.

Police said Jones held a 12-year-old hostage when they broke into Earl Hamilton Jr.'s home on Milton Street while Brooks hid from police in the Olde Pink House. Brooks is accused of taking Hamilton Jr. by gunpoint to a bank to take out cash.

The lead investigator Det. Jonathan Puhalla took the stand Friday morning. He testified that Jones first told investigators he was smoking marijuana.

Puhalla said that was the reason Jones ran from police when they surrounded the Milton Street home.

Puhalla said Jones then admitted to breaking into Hamilton Jr.'s home with Brooks. The detective testified that Jones told him he was looking for drugs and that they even raided his son's Cheerios box looking for his stash.

The defense is expected to begin calling witnesses.
