Hotel fire ruled arson in Charlton County

CHARLTON CO., GA (WTOC) -

A reward is being offered in the case of a fire that destroyed a hotel Thursday night in Folkston, Ga.

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens said his fire investigators determined the fire was arson.  

The fire erupted at about 7 p.m. Thursday at the Relax Inn at 3436 2nd St. Folkston, Ga., started in an empty room of the building used for storage, according to the Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner's Office.

Anyone with information about the fire can call the Arson Hotline at 1.800.282.5804. Rewards of up to $10,000 are given for information leading to the arrest and conviction of an arsonist. Calls are taken 24 hours a day; callers can choose to remain anonymous. 

First-degree arson is a felony with a penalty of one to 20 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $50,000.
