Police Honor G-8 Contributions

The G-8 summit is long over, but the awards are just beginning. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department paid tribute today to all of the agencies and law enforcement personnel who helped during the second week of June. Chief Dan Flynn says the summit went off safely and peacefully, and he thanked all of the people who worked hard to keep the community running smoothly.

"Today, we hoped to commend some public workers and police personnel who contributed to our success in the G-8 and to those agencies and a wide variety of organizations who stepped up in an important way," the chief said.

The police department gave out more than 4,000 awards and certificates at this afternoon's ceremony, which was emceed by WTOC's own Sonny Dixon.
