HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -
The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating an
attempted strong arm robbery that occurred early Sunday morning on Hilton Head.
Deputies responded to the emergency room at about 4:30 a.m.
Sunday at Hilton Head Hospital in on a report of someone getting treatment for
injuries suffered during an attempted robbery. A 49-year-old man told deputies
he had been attacked by three men.
The man said he had been walking on a bike path from his
home at Chimney Cove to the nearby Circle K at 825 William Hilton Parkway when
he was approached by two Hispanic males and a black male, according to the
sheriff's office.
A man grabbed the victim from behind and held him as the other
two punched him in the face repeatedly and demanded money. The victim refused
to hand over cash and kept his hands in his pockets to prevent them from taking
any, according to the sheriff's office. The suspects eventually gave up and ran
off. The victim flagged down a passing car. The driver agreed to take him to
the hospital for help.
The victim suffered moderate facial injuries. He was treated
and released.
