On Monday, Neil Allen of the Georgia Air National Guard was promoted to Chief Master Sergeant, the highest rank in the military for non-commissioned officers. Because of its rarity, Allen was allowed to choose the location for the celebration. Being that he is from Savannah and lives in Pooler now, he chose Kevin Barry's on River Street.
"I wanted to have a place where we could celebrate what the military actually does. This place is covered with memorabilia of soldiers who have fallen in defense of our freedoms and our right to do this very thing," said CMSgt. Allen.
CMSgt. Allen serves at Savannah's Combat Readiness Training Center.
