Target to Hire Hundreds in Savannah

In just two months, Target will open at Savannah Mall and hundreds of people, like Sarah Davis, want to be a part of it. "I think it would be really fun to work there," she said.

People have been waiting for Target to open in Savannah for years, but for as much anticipation as there is for the new store, many still can't get over the lines to apply for work.

"I work in retail sales and I couldn't believe how large the crowd was out here today," said Sharon Gomez of Savannah.

"We think this is outstanding," said Target human resources manager Hannah Drummond Graham. "It is a phenomenal turnout."

By 10:30am, several hundred were waiting for a chance at one of 200 new jobs. The odds may not be great, but the attraction of a good job was too much to pass up. "Good benefits, I heard," said applicant Sandra Williams. "Friends were telling me about the job, but I didn't know the lines were going to be this long."

Barbara Lumpkin works in Richmond Hill. she's hoping a job at Target will keep her closer to home and family. "My daughter's in middle school now, so I'm just trying to find something during the day, so I can be home with her at night," she said.

Target is hiring cashiers, sales floor people, stockers, pricing specialists, fitting room attendants and telephone operators.

If you want to work at Target, you'll need more than just work experience according to Graham. "We're looking for the right attitude and someone who's going to go the extra mile for our guests. Guests are our number one priority and we're looking for that personality that's going to make sure our guests are our number one priority."

You can apply at the old Montgomery Ward's store at the Savannah Mall until 7pm tonight, then tomorrow from 10am to 7pm, and Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
