Grand Marshal’s sister receives parade sash

Posted: Updated:

The Daughters of Ireland kicked off festivities Wednesday by honoring a very special lady.

This year Nancy Ray Johnson, the sister of Grand Marshal Jimmy Ray, received her parade sash from Father O'Brien. The annual dinner recognizes the Grand Marshal's female family members as well as the wives of parade adjutants.

Receiving the sash had become a prestigious honor and a Savannah tradition.

"It helps you to know more about the tradition of St. Patrick's Day. Also you meet a new man who has given a lot to Savannah, and that is what Jimmy Ray has done" Said Daughters of Ireland President Betty Shwarz.

Members of the Irish Dancers of Savannah performed at the event.
