SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
Savannah-Chatham Metro Police are warning area residents of
con artists that are offering to help motorists with non-existing mechanical
problems.
Southside Precinct officers have been contacted by
neighborhood watch members in the Windsor Forest area about a man who approaches
mostly women drivers in parking lots as they are walking back to their
vehicles.
The man points to a collection of fluid near a wheel and
then advises the driver that the brake fluid is leaking and he knows how to repair
it to avoid an accident. He then asks for $18 to purchase the part and returns
to "repair" the wheel.
The man is described as a white male in his 50s with short
brown hair, approximately 5'8" and 185 lbs. Authorities say he has been seen
wearing a baseball cap, grey jacket and blue pants.
One woman who encountered the man in the parking lot of an
Abercorn Street drug store had the work checked at her garage and was told the
car had no problem and nothing was replaced.
Police are advising residents approached to contact them
immediately.
