Coastal Middle School was recognized today as an educational model for the nation.
The school is one of 19 in the state and about 400 in the country to be awarded a National Lighthouse Award.
The honor comes not just from academics, but from the school's work to create well rounded students. Robust extracurricular programs played a big part in the honor, as did relationships among teachers and students.
"I think our students feel like they can trust the faculty and staff, and the teachers have worked really hard to develop positive relationships with the students and with the parents," principal Kelly Coursey said.
