SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The 200 Club of the Coastal Empire handed out their annual Act of Valor Awards Wednesday. The awards go to specially selected first responders who put their own lives in jeopardy to help someone else. This year the medals went to Master Firefighter Ben Spence and Advanced Firefighter Josh Spivey.

The Savannah firefighters responded to a fire at a house on West Victory Drive back in October 2011. A 9-year-old boy was still inside. Spence and Spivey rushed in and pulled the boy out. Advanced Firefighter Kenneth Baker did CPR and the boy survived.

"It is an honor to be selected. I never in a million years though I would be selected for this. I was just doing my job. I am glad there are outfits out that are willing to honor and select guys in our community who do a good job," said Spence.

Nashville recording artist and country music singer Jared Wade also performed at the event.

"It is an honor just to be part of it. I'm surrounded by people who give up their lives with their families everyday just to protect us. For me to be a part of it is an honor," said Jared Wade, country music singer.

The 200 Club is a local non-profit that provides financial assistance to families of first responders who lost their lives in the line of duty.
