SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A Savannah woman was killed early Thursday morning when the car she was driving crashed into a fence, sign and tree on Ferguson Avenue.

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Dept.'s Major Accident Investigations Team officers said a car crossed the center line into the southbound lane and the driver overcorrected, sending it out of control.

Police said Jessica J. Strieber, 28, died instantly when the 2006 Suzuki Forenza hatchback she was driving left the right side of Ferguson Avenue at about 2:28 a.m. between Lehigh Avenue and Diamond Causeway.

Police said the car knocked down a brick column, a traffic sign and a small tree. Then the car overturned in a grassy area.

Southside Fire rescue responders had to remove pieces of the car in order to get the driver out. She was declared dead at the scene.

Strieber had worked at Coach's Corner for a little more than a year. The employees express their condolences to family and friends.

MAIT continues to investigate the crash.
