Chatham Co. DA to handle coroner case

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Chatham County District Attorney Meg Heap is taking over the investigation into the misuse of funds by former Coroner James Metts.

Heap said it could take about two weeks before she decides how to move with the case.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation started an investigation a few months ago after an internal county audit and Metts' resignation.

Auditors cited an estimated $140,000 in expenses as questionable.
