SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
With
Carver Heights residents joining Savannah-Chatham Metro Police who were
saturating the area, two suspects were apprehended moments after an armed
robbery Wednesday afternoon.
Calls
from residents started coming in minutes after clerks at Sheppards convenience
store at West Gwinnett Street and Stiles Avenue were robbed by two armed men
around 11:35 a.m. Callers directed authorities towards the suspects, who ran
west into the Carver Village area.
The
constant tips from callers directed a combination of SCMPD officers. Patrol and
Crime Suppression Unit officers from West Chatham and Downtown Precincts,
Robbery Unit and precinct detectives, canine officers from SCMPD and the
Chatham County Sheriff's Office, and a Metro major were all saturating the
area.
Officers
with the Crime Suppression Unit located the suspects, Nicholas Alexander Floyd,
19, and Juan Chaunecey Stephens, 20, behind a house a block away. Canine units
also helped locate two weapons believed to be used in the robbery between the
two locations. Floyd and Stephens have been charged with armed robbery.
Stephens
has also been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He has
been on active parole since his release from Telfair State Prison on Sept. 12,
2012. He served 21 months of a five year sentence for crimes that included
theft by receiving, possession of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.
Robbery
detectives are continuing to investigate the robbery.
