CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -
A Chatham County couple is in custody after one of them sold prescription drugs to members of the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team.
On Wednesday afternoon, CNT Agents were made aware of an ad on Craigslist where someone was selling the prescription drug Klonopin. The ad listed "Klonopins" and instructed the would-be buyers to text the phone number listed. A CNT Agents working undercover contacted the number and made arrangements to meet with the seller at her residence in the 200 block of Quacco Road.
The undercover agent went to the residence and purchased a total of 50 Klonopin pills for $50. Once the sale was complete, authorities arrested the seller, Jessica Cope, 25, for sale of a controlled substance. Cope's fiance, Rashawn Mitchell, 34, arrived at the residence while authorities were on the scene. He was also arrested after agents discovered he was wanted by the Chatham County Sheriff's Office for contempt of court. They were both transported to the Chatham County Detention Center. Cope was denied bond during her arraignment in the Recorder's Court of Chatham County.
Under the Controlled Substances Act, Klonopin is listed as a Schedule IV drug. It is used to help treat seizures and anxiety. People abuse Klonopin by enhancing the effects of other drugs like opiates and alcohol.
