A Rincon couple was arrested Wednesday afternoon after more than three pounds of marijuana was delivered to their residence from California. Effingham County Sheriff's Office was notified by authorities in California after a narcotics k-9 alerted on the package prior to it being shipped. Deputies executed a search warrant after the package was delivered to a residence on Warren Street in Rincon.
The occupants of the home, Zachary Smith, 29, of Rincon, and Crystal Clifton, 29, of Rincon, were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. According to authorities, the estimated street value of the recovered marijuana is more than $15,000.
Smith and Clifton are both currently being held in the Effingham County Jail. Effingham County Sheriff's Office and several other local and federal law enforcement agencies are continuing to investigate.
