What do giving the gift of life and football have in common? A lot, if you were out at the American Red Cross donor center today. The Red Cross and the Atlanta Falcons Women's Association cosponsored a blood drive today.
Donors who rolled up their sleeves could register to win tickets to a Falcons game. Both groups are trying to replenish the dwindling blood supply, especially the platelets.
"The platelets are only good for five days, so the turnover for platelets is very important in that since they are only good for five days, we have to keep a constant supply on the shelf," explained the American Red Cross' Dean Smith.
The blood drive will also be going on tomorrow at the donor center off Tibet Avenue from 8am until 2pm.
