Great Savannah Cleanup needs your help

Posted: Updated:

Residents invited to Great Savannah Cleanup Saturday. The City of Savannah kicks off the four-mounth-long cleanup of Cuyler-Brownville and Metropolitan neighborhoods Saturday, March 2nd.

Up to 200 residents from both neighborhoods, along with volunteers from a number of civic organizations and the Savannah Youth Council, will help pick up trash, remove graffiti, weed and mulch trees and conduct a litter survey to track conditions in the neighborhoods.

The cleanup started at 9 a.m. in Wells Residents at 39th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Residents are invited to partake. A tire roundup is being held at 37th Street and MLK. There will be no charge for disposing of old tires, though it is limited to four tires per person. Car tires only.

The Great Savannah Cleanup runs from March 2nd to June 30th and is sponsored by the City of Savannah and Keep Savannah Beautiful in coordination with the Great American Cleanup.

Savannah residents and businesses are encouraged to help organize their own neighborhood cleanups. If residents provide labor, the City will provide bags and gloves, then collect and dispose of the bags of trash.

To organize a neighborhood cleanup, contact Keep Savannah Beautiful Coordinator Nathaniel Glover at (912) 651-1967.
