POOLER, GA (WTOC) -
Drivers caught a horrific sight Saturday afternoon in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95, right where it meets Interstate 16. Six people were taken to Memorial University Medical Center, two of them with serious injuries. Pooler Fire Chief Wade Simmons says a pink sedan hit a silver car before flying off the interstate and hitting a tree.
Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to cut two patients from the pink car. Names of those patients haven't been released yet, but Simmons says the two with serious injuries are women from out of state. One of those women was flown to Memorial the Lifestar helicopter.
Five adults and one child were involved in the crash. Simmons says the child's injuries aren't serious.
With two interstates running through town, Pooler Fire sees a lot of wrecks. But Simmons says this one was particularly bad.
"The amount of patients and the fact that the patients were trapped in the vehicle and we had to use the jaws of life, that makes it a serious accident."
Several drivers witnessed the crash and were interviewed by investigators.
