SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

St. Patrick's Day celebrations are one step closer with the formal presentaion of a new grand marshal.

2013 St Patrick's Day Parade Grand Marshal Jimmy Ray was presented to the public today at his formal investiture in downtown Savannah.

2012 Grand Marshal Tim Ansley presented Grand Marshal Ray with the marshal's sash and Jimmy in turn presented the sashes to each of his aides.

In attendance were past grand marshals, County Commission Chairman Al Scott and Mayor Edna Jackson who said that the Irish were welcome anywhere in Savannah with one important exception for Thursday's council meeting.

"We look forward to seeing all of you on thursday... the only thing we ask is that you not bring the goat." said Jackson.

When 2010 Grand Marshal Denny Herb went before city council seeking a parade permit, Charlie Russo brought council a goat as a gift.

City council is asking the Irish to keep their gifts to themselves this year.
