The search is on for two men involved in a late-night boating accident off Tybee Island. The Coast Guard tells us, shortly before 11:30pm last night, a recreational boat with four people on board ran into a shrimp boat in the waters north of Tybee.
One person was thrown off the boat from the impact. A shrimper jumped into the water and pulled him onto the shrimp boat.
Meanwhile a Coast Guard boat picked up one man holding onto the capsized pleasure boat, but the two other men could not be located.
Both of the injured men were taken to a waiting ambulance at a landing on Lazeratto Creek and rushed to Memorial Health.
Coast Guard boats and a helicopter, the Marine Rescue Squadron, the Chatham County Dive Team, Tybee police and members of the Department of Natural Resources searched for the two missing men throughout the early morning hours.
They called off the search about 3am and began searching again at 6:30am this morning.
