A gas line was struck in Chatham County on May 9, 2012.
ATLANTA (WTOC) -
The Georgia Public Service Commission will vote Tuesday
on whether to accept the terms of a settlement between the state of Georgia and
the Atlanta Gas Light Co.
The settlement is related to three separate gas line
strikes in Chatham County.
Last March, a construction crew ruptured a gas main
at Whitfield Avenue and Diamond Causeway two days in a row causing major
traffic problems and safety concerns.
Chatham County administrators accused Atlanta Gas Light
Co. of not marking the gas lines properly
Under the settlement, Atlanta Gas Light would agree
to pay $50,000, but is not admitting any fault in the incident.
If the commission accepts the settlement, the $50,000 would
be split. Half would go to the National Guard Foundation, which helps soldiers
who are having a hard time paying their utility bills. The other half would to
HEAT, which is a non-profit organization that helps low-income families with their
utility bills.
