SC workers head north to help with snow storm

BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

Employees from seven electric cooperatives in South Carolina are on their way to Virginia.

The crews are hoping to help out with the large snow storm hammering the region.

"We really like to go and help our neighboring cooperatives during weather situations. There are about 20 cooperatives in the states of South Carolina, and we all like to get involved and help where we are needed. Our crews met up with the other crews in St. George yesterday to travel together. We have the cooperative spirit here," said Missy Santorum, Palmetto Electric Cooperative spokesperson.

Electric cooperatives in Virginia are expecting widespread power outages as heavy snow and wind moves into the area.

The South Carolina group plans to be there for as long as seven days.
