CLAXTON, GA (WTOC) -
On Tuesday, two heroes were awarded with one of the highest honors after they helped save a man's life. Victor Anderson and Elizabeth Porter received the Red Cross Certificate of Merit signed by President Barack Obama. The two honorees were both shopping in a store last December when another customer suffered a heart attack. Porter knew exactly what to do.
"I have been a CPR instructor for about four years so I knew I didn't have any choice but to help," said Porter, Red Cross volunteer.
The Certificate of Merit is the Red Cross' highest civilian award.
