SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Fire crews responded to the intersection of MLK Blvd. and W 31st St. early Wednesday in reference to a tree down.

Upon arrival, fire crews determined that heavy winds had blown a tree limb into a power line, causing a small fire.

Firefighters quickly got the fire out. No injuries were reported.

Officials were worried the power line was at risk of breaking so they closed the intersection of MLK at W 31st for several hours while power crews worked to remove the limb from the live line. The road reopened shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Georgia Power reported 1800 without power throughout Savannah Wednesday at 5:30 a.m., but say it was not all due to this incident.

As of 7 a.m., an update from Georgia Power reported most power had been restored and very few outages remained.
